Six individuals are feared dead following a bandit attack on the Takanai community within the Atyap Chiefdom in the Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Although the Kaduna State Police Command’s spokesperson could not be reached for official confirmation, Samson Markus, the Acting Secretary to the District Head of the affected community, verified the incident to reporters.
According to Markus, the bandits launched their assault on the community during Tuesday night, resulting in the loss of six lives, including two children. He recounted, “We were going about our normal routines when we heard gunshots, initially assuming it was the military. However, before the military arrived, the assailants had already killed six individuals, including 2 children.
Markus further explained, “The arrival of the military eventually frightened off the bandits, causing them to flee the community. It is disheartening that such tragic incidents continue to occur in our villages, even when we believed that peace had been restored. We urge the government and the military to intensify their efforts and take decisive action against these terrorists who invade our villages, taking innocent lives.”
He concluded by mentioning a recent incident in a neighboring Kaura community, where bandits attacked, resulting in the death of a mother and the kidnapping of her children, just five days prior to the Takanai attack.
