PDP’s Dominance In Edo State Face’s An Opposition....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Hilary Otsu, the secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo state, has stated that the state will not support any candidate endorsed by Governor Godwin Obaseki in the upcoming governorship election next year. Otsu argued that Obaseki lacks the necessary goodwill to promote an unfamiliar candidate in the state.

He expressed concerns over the lack of popularity of most candidates endorsed by the governor during the 2023 general elections, leading to the party’s defeat. Otsu emphasized that Edo state residents are unlikely to accept another outsider as their governor.

He further explained, “Governor Obaseki does not have the kind of goodwill needed to promote an unknown stranger in Edo State. When Oshiomole did it with him, Oshiomole had optimal goodwill and acceptance. If Edo people are given a choice today, they will vote against any candidate that Gov. Obaseki supports.”

Otsu also highlighted that many of the candidates endorsed by Obaseki during the 2023 general elections were unpopular, and voters in their respective constituencies were aware of the controversial processes that led to their emergence. Consequently, some voters who followed the events leading up to Obaseki’s candidates worked and voted against them, while PDP supporters opted to support candidates from other parties.

He cited the example of unprecedented victories for other parties in Edo Central and South Senatorial seats, where PDP had previously maintained a strong presence, including a Labor candidate’s victory in the Edo South Senate seat after switching from PDP to Labor shortly before the election.

According to the charge, the defendants allegedly conspired in 2025 to destabilise the Nigerian state and undermine the authority of the President.

It was further alleged that they planned actions intended to “levy war against the state to overawe the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” an offence punishable under the Criminal Code.

Prosecutors also claimed the accused had prior knowledge of a planned treasonable act involving Colonel Mohammed Alhassan Ma’aji and others but failed to report it to the authorities or take steps to prevent it.

Beyond the treason allegations, they are also being prosecuted under the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, for allegedly supporting and participating in activities linked to terrorism.

Two of the defendants, Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim and Zekeri Umoru, were specifically accused of attending meetings allegedly connected to terrorist planning and ideological mobilisation aimed at destabilising the country’s constitutional order.

In addition, several of the defendants are accused of handling funds believed to be linked to terrorism financing.

Bukar Kashim Goni was alleged to have retained ₦50 million suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities, while Abdulkadir Sani was accused of holding ₦2 million from similar sources.

Zekeri Umoru was also accused of receiving and retaining ₦10 million and ₦8.8 million without passing through financial institutions, while Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim was alleged to have taken possession of ₦1 million connected to the case.

All financial allegations were filed under the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

“Don’t come to APC. Stay in ADC and scatter them. We like what you’re doing. Don’t mind former governor Yahaya Bello, who said you should join APC. No, no, no, stay in ADC and win your election. Also, bring Bala Gombe, and we’ll support him. Good luck in court,” he was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, fresh tension has emerged within the African Democratic Congress as factional leader Nafiu Bala accused former national chairman Ralph Nwosu of misrepresenting the purpose of a recent party event.

Bala, speaking in an interview on AIT on Monday, said he was invited to what he believed was a routine meeting to welcome new members but later discovered it was used to announce a new leadership structure led by David Mark.
