Express Concern Over Ethnic and Religious Conflicts
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has called upon Nigerians to embrace peace, emphasizing that decades of conflicts, particularly in the North-East region, have obstructed the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Meanwhile, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has declared that peace is a vital necessity for human survival that must be safeguarded.
The National Commandant of Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN), Dr. Dickon A.O. Akoh, has also urged Nigerians to work towards protecting people’s rights in order to build peaceful and inclusive societies, without resorting to ethnic or religious sentiments.

These stakeholders made their remarks at various events held to commemorate this year’s International Day of Peace, with the theme, ‘Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the Global Goals.’
During the unveiling of this year’s event in Maiduguri, the Head of the UNDP Office, North-East, Dr. Moncef Kartas, stated: “Today’s event in Maiduguri is to celebrate the universal longing for harmony and unity in a world often plagued by strife and turmoil.”
He stressed that global peace transcends borders, cultures, and beliefs, hence the efforts to achieve the SDGs in the North-East region. This year’s event highlights the role of individuals, communities, and nations in fostering peace.
Governor Mutfwang, speaking at the Plateau Peace Outing, emphasized the importance of peace and urged Nigerians to unite regardless of ethnicity and religion for peaceful coexistence. He also called for a departure from the use of religion and ethnicity to cause disharmony and violence in the country.
The President of the Kwamkur Samuel Foundation for Justice, Peace, and Development, Kwamkur Samuel Vondip, underscored the need for collective actions to promote mutual respect, compassion, and value for one another to foster global peace.
The National Commandant of the PCN, Ambassador (Patriot) Lukman Adelowo Yekini, led a road walk and emphasized the importance of embracing peace, with visits to various locations in Ibadan. He urged everyone to make peace a priority and passion.
In summary, the UNDP, state governors, and the Peace Corps of Nigeria have all highlighted the significance of peace in achieving development goals, emphasizing the need for unity and actions to promote harmony in Nigeria.

He said Tinubu’s continuity in office was necessary to sustain ongoing reforms and promote equity, justice, and fairness across the country.
Buhari made the call while speaking with journalists at the end of a three-day women’s capacity-building programme held in Oyo North.
He commended the President for creating an enabling environment that allowed lawmakers to initiate empowerment programmes targeting women, especially in small and medium-scale enterprises within agricultural value chains.
The senator disclosed that 120 women from across Oyo State benefited from the training, with each receiving ₦100,000 to support their businesses.
He urged beneficiaries to use the funds wisely to improve their livelihoods and continue supporting the administration’s policies.
Buhari also encouraged participants to pray for the President, describing him as committed to improving the welfare of women and youths.
He explained that beneficiaries were drawn from all three senatorial districts in Oyo State, expressing confidence that Tinubu would emerge as the APC presidential candidate in 2027.
According to him, both he and the President recognise the crucial role of women in securing electoral victory for the party.
He added that more empowerment and capacity-building programmes would be rolled out in the near future to further support women and small business owners.
