The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the March 18 governorship election in Kano State, Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, expressed his fearlessness in the face of an appeal challenging his victory at the tribunal.

The Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal recently declared the APC as the winner of the election and removed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from office. The tribunal ordered the issuance of a certificate of return to Gawuna while revoking the certificate previously given to Yusuf. The tribunal cited the invalidity of 165,663 votes due to missing stamps or signatures and deducted these votes from Yusuf’s total.

In an interview with BBC Hausa, Gawuna conveyed his gratitude for the court’s affirmation of their victory in the Kano State election. He attributed their success to Allah’s will and expressed thanks to their legal team and the public for their prayers and support.

Gawuna acknowledged that initially, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) had been declared the winner, but he believed that Allah had already determined the outcome. He emphasized that they had the right to challenge the election results in court, and they exercised that right.

He further stated that individuals who believe that everything occurs according to Allah’s will do not fear or view governance as a life-or-death struggle. Regardless of the outcome, they trust that it is Allah’s will.

In his words, “We are not intimidated or afraid, because we know that whatever happens is for the best. Allah never makes mistakes.”
