Charms Do Not Provide Immunity From Road Crashes, Motorists Cautioned....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) Corps has issued a warning to drivers and commercial motorcyclists, urging them to refrain from relying on charms while operating on the road.
TRACE spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, conveyed this message during an interview with DAILY POST in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.
Akinbiyi highlighted that certain drivers exhibit reckless behavior due to their strong belief in the protective powers of charms they wear before embarking on their journeys. These individuals harbor the misguided belief that they are immune to road accidents or that they can miraculously emerge unharmed from any potentially fatal crash.

According to the traffic agent, such drivers often operate without regard for the safety of their passengers, ultimately endangering their own lives and the lives of innocent travelers.
He explained, “Some of these motorists place great faith in metaphysical powers and adorn themselves with various charms, thinking they are impervious to harm. They employ these charms solely for their own self-interest. They engage in reckless behaviors such as driving against traffic without considering the welfare of their passengers. If any mishap befalls these passengers, they will bear the consequences because they led them into danger.”
Akinbiyi emphasized that the efficacy of charms relies on proper usage and that drivers who misuse them are likely to be the ones adversely affected. He stressed that the most effective way to prevent road accidents is to adhere to all traffic rules and regulations.
He added, “It’s crucial not to place excessive faith in metaphysical practices. While charms may have their place, it’s important to understand how to use them correctly. Drivers who engage in dangerous behaviors like driving against traffic while believing that they are shielded by charms should reconsider their assumptions because they are not on the right path.”
Quoting Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka, Akinbiyi referred to the phenomenon as “Road Accident Immunity Delusion Syndrome (RAIDS),” highlighting the erroneous belief among drivers that charms provide absolute protection.
Akinbiyi called for a change in attitude and a reevaluation of behavior among drivers, especially during the Ember months, to enhance road safety.
