Each of the Senate and the House of Representatives comprises ten principal officers who collectively oversee the administration of their respective chambers. This includes roles such as Majority Leader, Deputy Majority Leader, Chief Whip, Deputy Chief Whip, Minority Leader, Deputy Minority Leader, Minority Whip, and Deputy Minority Whip, in addition to the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Senate President, and Deputy Senate President.

The retreat aims to facilitate discussions and brainstorming among these principal officers, fostering a harmonious approach to advancing legislative objectives without discord.

Notably, during the 9th Assembly, there were concerns raised by House of Representatives members about their bills facing challenges in receiving the necessary concurrence from the Senate. Despite their efforts to expedite Senate bills, disparities remained.

Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, and other principal officers of the House have already arrived in Uyo for the retreat. Speaker Tajudeen expressed his readiness on Facebook, stating, “We are ready to share ideas with a view to having a better 10th Assembly as the House gets ready to reconvene from annual recess next week.”
