The United Kingdom (UK) has introduced updated travel requirements for individuals seeking entry into the country.
The UK has announced that, effective November 15, 2023, all travelers, including Nigerians and citizens of other nations (excluding British and Irish nationals), must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to enter the UK. This requirement applies to individuals of all age groups, including children.

Under this new travel rule, individuals applying for visas to travel to the UK must secure an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) card before they can enter or transit through the UK. The UK Home Office has specified that this requirement applies to those who were previously eligible to visit the UK without a visa and are not already legally resident in the UK.
The ETA requirement extends to various categories of travelers, including those on visits lasting less than six months, individuals traveling for business purposes, tourists, and those visiting family and friends. Prospective travelers are obliged to apply for the ETA online before making any travel arrangements to the UK. Once granted, the ETA will be valid for multiple journeys over a period of two years or until the expiry of the traveler’s passport, whichever comes first.
The UK Home Office emphasized that travelers with valid visas may not be permitted to board their flights without a valid ETA, as the ETA is digitally linked to the traveler’s passport.
In a statement, the UK Home Office clarified, “The UK travel requirements are changing. Except for British and Irish citizens, everyone, including children who enter or transit through the UK, will soon require permission before they travel. This means that if you were previously eligible to visit the UK without a visa and not already legally resident in the UK, you will need an electronic travel authorisation (ETA). Your stay must be shorter than six months and could include tourism or visiting family and friends, transit, business, and short-term study.”
The statement also emphasized the importance of presenting the same passport used for ETA application upon entry into the UK and ensuring passport validity for the entire duration of the stay.

Maidoki announced his departure in a resignation letter dated May 14, 2026, addressed to the APC chairman of Rafin Zuru Ward in Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
In the letter, the lawmaker said his decision was driven by the persistent crisis rocking the party, which he noted had become a major threat to his political future and personal ambition.
“This is to inform you, the chairman of APC Rafin Zuru Ward, that I have withdrawn my membership card as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC),” he stated.
“My decision is based on the serious and continuous crisis in your party, which has made my political aspiration and ambition a source of concern.”
Maidoki’s exit comes just ahead of the APC primary elections scheduled as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
In a related development, two notable APC aspirants in Kebbi State, former Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah and Sani M. Kabiru, have also withdrawn from the party’s senatorial primaries set for May 18, 2026.
Na’Allah, who previously represented Kebbi South Senatorial District, communicated his withdrawal in a letter to the APC State Chairman in Birnin Kebbi.
The former senator said his decision was based on what he described as credible information regarding the party’s disposition ahead of the primary, alleging that directives from powerful quarters had already shaped the process.
Similarly, Sani M. Kabiru, popularly known as Kabiru Sani Giant, stepped down from the APC senatorial primary race for Kebbi Central Senatorial District.
In his withdrawal letter, Kabiru cited personal, political, and strategic reasons for his decision.
He expressed gratitude to party leaders, campaign members, and supporters for their backing throughout his political journey, while clarifying that his withdrawal from the contest does not amount to leaving the APC.

The quartet of Esther Okon, Toheebat Jimoh, Jecinter Lawrence, and Patience Okon-George delivered a dominant performance to successfully defend their title, winning in 3:29.25 on Sunday and finishing comfortably ahead of Ethiopia and Kenya.
Nigeria controlled the race from the opening leg and crossed the finish line nearly 30 metres clear of their closest rivals, securing the country’s fourth gold medal of the competition.
Overall, Team Nigeria finished fourth on the medal table with four gold, five silver, and three bronze medals, behind Kenya, South Africa, and Ethiopia. Kenya topped the standings with 17 medals, including six gold, while South Africa also secured six gold medals, and Ethiopia claimed five.
Nigeria’s final-day silver medal came through Rosemary Chukwuma, who finished second in the women’s 200m with a time of 23.60s, behind Ivory Coast’s Maboundou Kone, who clocked 23.36s. Chukwuma ended the championships with three medals, having earlier won gold in the women’s 4x100m relay and silver in the 100m.
The country’s campaign was led by world record holder Tobi Amusan, who claimed gold in the women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 12.83s. The mixed 4x400m relay team of Ezekiel Asuquo, Toheebat Jimoh, Victor Sampson, and Patience Okon-George also secured gold in 3:16.44, while the women’s 4x100m relay team added another title in 42.94s.
Silver medals were won by Oyesade Olatoye in the hammer throw (69.60m), Divine Oladipo in the discus, and the men’s 4x100m relay team, which finished in 38.70s. Adaobi Tabugbo earned bronze in the women’s 100m hurdles with 13.26s, while Chidera Ezeakor also picked up bronze in the men’s 100m after running 10.31s, rounding off a strong outing for Nigeria.
