Matthew Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese and Founder of The Kukah Centre, has been honored with the 2023 Mundo Negro Fraternity Award.

Atta Barkindo, the Executive Director of The Kukah Centre, announced this in a statement from Abuja. The news was conveyed to Kukah through a letter signed by Enrique Bayo Mata, a priest of the Comboni Missionaries and director of the Madrid-based Spanish Magazine, Mundo Negro.

According to the letter, Mata explained that the magazine organizes an annual encounter with Africa during which the award is presented to a distinguished African personality or institution that has made significant contributions to building a better world and a more prosperous African continent. The letter also acknowledged the outstanding work of the Kukah Centre, founded by Kukah.

Barkindo shared that the award includes a cash prize of €10,000 and will be officially presented to Kukah in Madrid on February 3, 2024.

He expressed the Kukah Centre’s gratitude for the recognition of their founder’s contributions and pledged that the award would serve as motivation to continue promoting the values and ideals represented by Kukah to improve the world through the center’s activities.
