Daudu’s nomination for the SAN rank, a prestigious recognition reserved for Nigerian lawyers who have demonstrated exceptional expertise in either legal advocacy or academia, comes after a turbulent period in her career. She had been embroiled in controversy when she was caught cheating during an examination for a Master’s degree in research and public policy at the University of Jos, where she had served as the former head of the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law.
The incident led to her suspension by the university in December 2016, accompanied by the suspension of her membership in the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption (PACAC). Daudu subsequently initiated legal action against the university, but eventually, both parties reached an out-of-court settlement. Following this resolution, the law professor resigned from her position and received a settlement payment.
