Dino Melaye, the governorship candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State, has committed to instituting reforms in the state’s civil service sector should he secure victory in the upcoming November 11 election. Melaye, representing the Kogi PDP, has assured that if elected as governor, his administration will ensure that state employees receive their complete monthly salaries by the 25th of each month.

Melaye emphasized that his tenure would usher in a new era for Kogi, focusing not only on civil service reform but also on substantial infrastructure improvement. He unveiled a comprehensive plan, including the establishment of an Independent Kogi Economic Development Commission, ensuring full salary payments to workers, creating four new administrative districts, and augmenting the state’s Internal Revenue Generation without imposing additional tax burdens on the underprivileged.

These commitments were made by the PDP leader during the reception of the party’s Policy Drafting Committee report for the Kogi Governorship election in Abuja, as reported by Naija News. Melaye underscored the urgency of civil service reform in Kogi State, pledging that salaries would be disbursed punctually and in full. He lamented the current socioeconomic disparities in the state, with a growing gap between the affluent and the impoverished, particularly those in government.

Additionally, Melaye vowed to grant local government areas complete autonomy if elected, accusing the current government of misappropriating funds designated for assisting the less privileged. He pointed out that a decade ago, local governments in Kogi State were engaged in various developmental projects, but today, many of them are grappling with financial constraints, with some local government offices even closed.

Furthermore, Melaye outlined his financial strategy, indicating that federal allocations would be allocated exclusively for civil service-related expenses such as salaries, pensions, gratuities, promotions, training, and retraining. Meanwhile, internally generated revenues would be channeled into developmental initiatives. He also highlighted the abundance of untapped mineral resources in Kogi, particularly mentioning Uranium, and expressed his commitment to increasing revenue without imposing additional financial burdens on the less fortunate.
