Shortly after the governor inaugurated the program, a multi-story building along Okpanam Road in the state capital tragically collapsed, causing serious injuries to eight individuals.
Governor Oborevwori assured the architects that his administration would take all necessary measures in the state to prevent building collapses. He urged them to rise to the occasion and address this pressing issue.
Represented by the Commissioner for Lands, Surveys & Urban Development, Chief Emamusi Obiodeh, Governor Oborevwori expressed his fascination with the event’s theme, “Sustainable Development III is here again.” He emphasized the timeliness of the theme, particularly in an era where building collapses have become alarmingly common.
He encouraged the NIA, as a professional body, to seize the opportunity presented by the gathering to thoroughly investigate the causes of building collapses and propose lasting solutions to end this unfortunate trend.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing ongoing projects and initiating new ones to promote developmental objectives outlined in the M.O.R.E agenda, which focuses on infrastructural and human capital development.
He emphasized the importance of continuity and sustainability in development and highlighted the alignment between the government’s M.O.R.E agenda and the theme of the Nigerian Institute of Architects’ Archi-Delta Expo 2023.
Governor Oborevwori expressed his belief that both the NIA and the State Government share a common vision for sustainable development.
Architect Pius Amromanoh, the Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) Delta State chapter, extended a warm welcome to all participants at the event.
