Salihu Lukman, the immediate past national vice-chairman (North-West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), held a meeting with the party’s national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, approximately 50 days after his resignation from the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling party.
In a statement released on Thursday, Lukman revealed that the purpose of the meeting was to brief the national chairman about his upcoming book, titled “APC and Transition Politics.”
The publication delves into the political developments and challenges faced by the APC between January 2022 and August 2023. This period encompassed critical moments when the party’s leaders had to navigate obstacles, including attempts by the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), led by Mai Mala Buni, the governor of Yobe state, to prevent the national convention of the party from taking place.
Lukman’s book also explores the internal dynamics and contests within the APC to select the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections, ultimately leading to the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the APC presidential candidate.
In Lukman’s statement, he mentioned, “I had the privilege of meeting His Excellency, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, APC National Chairman, on Wednesday, and discussed challenges facing our great party. This is our first meeting since his election on August 4, 2023. A major highlight of our discussion is the forthcoming publication, ‘APC and Transition Politics,’ which is a compilation of contributions made to the debate to reform the APC to achieve its founding vision of becoming a progressive party in Nigeria.”
The statement further noted that Dr. Ganduje welcomed Lukman’s initiative to produce “APC and Transition Politics” and expressed his endorsement. Additionally, Ganduje emphasized the party’s commitment to establishing a progressive institute to enhance product knowledge and maintain the APC’s progressive ideals under his leadership. The book’s editing process is expected to conclude before the end of September.
