In recognition of his outstanding efforts in promoting peace, security, and growth within the Umueri Community in Anambra East Local Government and its surrounding areas, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has bestowed the title of ‘Best President General’ (PG) for the year 2023 upon Ambassador John Metchie, the African Director of the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA).

Ambassador Metchie, who is currently attending a United Nations Program on world peace in Germany alongside his wife, Lolo Linda Metchie, was elected as the PG of Umueri Community in Anambra State in 2022.

During the inauguration of the new executive committee of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Anambra East Local Government Area chapter, Dr. Marcel Molokwu, Chairman of the organization, presented the prestigious award. He cited Ambassador Metchie’s remarkable accomplishments as the PG of Umueri community in just over a year in office as the basis for his selection.

Molokwu highlighted several of Ambassador Metchie’s achievements, including raising awareness at the state, national, and international levels for the once less-developed community, implementing modern security measures in Umueri and its vicinity, and initiating various development projects such as market construction, road infrastructure, and culverts.

Molokwu also noted that Ambassador Metchie’s tenure had fostered unprecedented peace in the community’s relationships with neighboring towns, such as Aguleri and others. He further commended Ambassador Metchie for leveraging his extensive network to secure projects from the administration of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, including the renovation and equipping of Umueri General Hospital and the presence of international agencies like UNESCO and the Red Cross during national flood disasters.

The ceremony witnessed the presence of traditional rulers from various towns across Anambra East, underscoring the respect and admiration Ambassador Metchie has earned from near and far. Molokwu commended Ambassador Metchie for his dedication to empowering women, youths, widows, orphans, and other community members, as well as his Light-Up Umueri project, which provides solar power to over 150 households.

In addition to Ambassador Metchie, Barrister C.J. Chinwuba received the Community Service Excellence Award, while Lolo Mrs. Teresa Nkeonye Ahumaraeze was honored with the Exemplary Administrator Of The-Year Award.

Notable traditional rulers, including H.R.M Igwe Sir Benneth Emeka, the Oke-Ebo II of Umueri, HRM Dr. Mike Indigo, Igwe Aguleri, Eze Udo 1, HRM Igwe Lawrence Nwofia (Ochiagha), Igwe Eziagulu Otu Aguleri, and HRM Igwe Sir GO Ekwealor Oba –Agu 11 of Umuoba Anam, graced the event, which was chaired by Chief Obi Chukuemekalum.

In response to the recognition, Ambassador Metchie expressed his gratitude to Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide and considered it a challenge and motivation to continue working diligently for the betterment of Umueri, Anambra State, and humanity as a whole. He also holds the position of Prime Minister in the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) and serves as the Deputy Commander General (DCG) of the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service (NHFSS) overseeing Technical Service.

Meanwhile, a faction of the Accord Party (A), led by its National Chairman and presidential candidate, Professor Christopher Imumolen, has withdrawn support for Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and endorsed Oyebamiji ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Imumolen announced the decision on Thursday during the APC mega rally in Osun State, just days before the August 15, 2026 poll.

Speaking at the rally, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who represented President Bola Tinubu, said information available to him indicated that the Accord faction had “thrown in the towel” and decided to support Oyebamiji.

During his address, Imumolen removed the yellow cap associated with Accord in the state and replaced it with an APC-branded cap in a symbolic show of support for the ruling party’s candidate.

A video from the rally showed the discarded yellow cap being thrown into the air by an unidentified person.
