Bishop Kayode Williams, the presiding bishop of Christ Vessels of Grace Church Inc., has marked his 70th birthday and reflected on his remarkable journey from a notorious armed robber to a dedicated advocate for justice, equity, and fairness. After serving a 10-year prison sentence and receiving a presidential pardon 43 years ago, Bishop Williams founded the Prison Rehabilitation Mission International Inc (PREMI) and has since been serving humanity in various capacities.
In an interview with FUNKE COLE, Bishop Williams shared insights into his commitment to the ideals of rehabilitation, reformation, reintegration, and resettlement of ex-convicts. He expressed gratitude for the second chance life had given him and his determination to give back to society.

Over the years, Bishop Williams and PREMI have played a significant role in prison reform efforts in Nigeria, changing the lives of over 2500 ex-convicts and raising awareness about the importance of rehabilitation within the correctional system. Despite the challenges posed by a society often skeptical of ex-convicts, Bishop Williams continues to passionately pursue his mission.
Recently, he signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Prof. Ishaq Akintola of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) to collaborate on raising awareness about prison reform, transcending religious boundaries for a common cause. Both individuals, despite their religious differences, share a vision of a better Nigeria and are committed to improving the prison system for the benefit of all citizens.
Bishop Kayode Williams’ story serves as an inspiring testament to the power of redemption and the capacity for individuals to transform their lives and make a positive impact on society.
