Senator Alkali explained that initially, the wagon will utilize one track, with the remaining two tracks scheduled for activation upon completion.

“The ministry will collaborate with the Minister of Finance and the Customs department regarding the removal of the scanning center, which is currently impeding the finalization of the remaining tracks leading to the ports,” Senator Alkali stated. “Once these two remaining tracks are laid, cargo will flow in and out of the ports efficiently.”

Mr. Jetson Nwankwo, the Managing Director of Bueno Logistics, shared his commitment to optimizing railway usage to alleviate road congestion in Lagos.

“Our ongoing partnership with the Nigerian Railway Corporation and terminal operators is aimed at easing traffic congestion caused by container trucks in Lagos,” Mr. Nwankwo said. “The introduction of the new standard gauge line at the APM Terminal is a significant development, capable of transporting up to 60 containers in a single trip from Apapa complex. With daily operations, we can anticipate a reduction in container presence on bridges. The ultimate goal is to transport containers from Apapa Port complex to the expansive freight terminal in Moniya, Ibadan.”
