The Saudi Arabia Ministry of Health has donated 300 malaria test kits to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to enhance healthcare services for Nigerian pilgrims on their holy pilgrimage. Dr. Abubakar Isma’eel, Head of Nigeria’s Medical Mission for the 2024 Hajj season, received the donation on behalf of NAHCON’s chairman, Malam Jalal Arabi. According to a statement from NAHCON’s Assistant Director of Public Affairs, Hajia Fatima Sanda Usara, the donation signifies the Saudi government’s confidence in NAHCON’s healthcare system.

The statement highlighted the efficient collaboration between NAHCON’s health workforce and the Saudi Ministry of Health, which has fostered a reliable healthcare system for the pilgrims. This collaboration allows for serious cases to be referred to Saudi hospitals for stabilization before returning patients to NAHCON clinics for ongoing observation, thus optimizing bed occupancy in Saudi hospitals.

The statement noted, “Sharing of original malaria test kits with NAHCON clinics to facilitate early diagnosis for prompt treatment indicates the level of earned confidence of the Kingdom’s Health Ministry by the NAHCON health facilities.”

Furthermore, the Saudi government recently approved two main clinics for NAHCON in the Masfala/Kudai and Shari’e Al-Mansour areas to provide healthcare services to pilgrims in Makkah.

In another development, NAHCON’s Commissioner of Policy, Personnel Management, and Finance, Prince Aliu AbdulRazak, observed the 2024 Hajj airlift from the South-South region on Tuesday. Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, bid farewell to the state’s contingents at Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa. Governor Fubara also supported each pilgrim with a cash donation of $300 to alleviate the foreign exchange shortfall in their Basic Travel Allowance (BTA) and encouraged them to be law-abiding and to pray for the state and Nigeria.

NAHCON chairman, Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi, expressed satisfaction with the malaria test kits and appreciated the governor’s support for the pilgrims.
