According to a statement by Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, the airstrikes were carried out between May 30th and 31st, 2024, as part of Operation Whirl.
Intelligence surveillance revealed a significant presence of armed terrorists in the targeted areas, prompting the airstrikes. Scores of terrorists were sighted and targeted, resulting in substantial damage to their infrastructure and equipment.
Following initial strikes, a follow-up operation neutralized surviving terrorists who had relocated, further crippling their operations.
In a separate operation, the Air Component of Operation Hadarin Daji targeted terrorist kingpin Alhaji Iliya and his associates in Katsina State on June 2nd, 2024. This operation aimed to eliminate terrorists and disrupt their activities in the region.
Both operations were successful, with terrorists eliminated and their structures destroyed. However, the NAF emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach involving all sectors of society to address the ongoing threat posed by criminal elements.
The NAF reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining dominance over the battlespace by conducting continuous patrols and targeting terrorist safe havens within its areas of responsibility.
