Why I Dumped Law For Skit Making – Ace Comedian, Dauda....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ace Nollywood actor and comedian Kingsley Ogbonna, popularly known as Dauda, has revealed his reasons for transitioning from law to skit-making. Dauda, who previously served as a Special Adviser to former Abia State Governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, pursued a legal career but has now returned to his first love: entertainment……CONTINUE READING

In an interview with The Nation, Dauda explained that while law is a reputable profession, it demands significant time and effort to establish oneself, especially starting at an older age. He stated, “Law is good, but it is usually very hard for you to start practicing when you are 50 and above as a new wig. The least is 10 years before finding your bearing.”

Dauda emphasized his passion for the entertainment industry, noting that it offers more immediate opportunities and profitability, which is crucial given his responsibilities and age. He said, “The best thing is to go back to what you know how to do best, what the world knows you for, which is entertainment.”

Reflecting on his academic journey and the legal profession, Dauda acknowledged that while law has enriched his knowledge and skills, it does not align with his current priorities. He mentioned, “I see myself as educated, learned. I can handle any organization anywhere. I know how to make money right now. But that is not the thing. The thing is that whatever thing you do at this age, it must be profitable.”

Dauda expressed a pragmatic approach towards his career choices, highlighting the importance of financial stability. He remarked, “Yes, it is a passion but the passion that is not yielding anything is useless. Do I need to die because it is a passion?”

He shared insights into the challenges faced by many in the entertainment industry who focus solely on their craft without considering the business aspect. “Those who started in the 90s, into 2000 actors, and directors who so much love this business and would want to get it right at all times have still not found their feet because of the influx of the Idumota unto Alaba people who saw it as business and not what you are doing that you love. They are talking about doing it and making money and they are making money. That is the business in it,” Dauda explained.

His lifelong passion for entertainment began in kindergarten and continued through various stages of his life, from dancing on NTA Channel 6 to serving as a junior choirmaster at a local church. Despite his legal education, Dauda remains committed to creating content that resonates with audiences, especially the younger generation.

Looking ahead, Dauda aims to establish a lasting legacy in the entertainment industry while also planning for a future transition out of the spotlight. He envisions a time when he will pass the torch to younger talents, much like veteran comedian Ali Baba has done.

Dauda concluded by emphasizing the importance of adapting to changing trends and leveraging the internet to reach new audiences. “Thanks to the internet. When we started, the kind of money in entertainment now wasn’t there then. And I know I am funny. I now thought to myself, why not go into the internet world for the younger generations who perhaps don’t know me?”

Through his journey, Dauda highlights the balance between passion and practicality, demonstrating that career transitions, even late in life, can be driven by both personal fulfillment and pragmatic considerations.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted approval for a fresh legal move seeking to compel the Nigeria Police Force to reopen investigations into the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba (Mohbad).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The ruling was delivered on Wednesday by Justice James Omotosho following an application filed by the Registered Trustees of Break the Silence Foundation, a civil society organisation.

The group approached the court through its counsel, asking for permission to seek an order directing the police to conduct a more thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.

The suit lists the Inspector-General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, as respondents.

Mohbad died in September 2023 in Lagos, a case that sparked widespread public outrage and calls for justice both within Nigeria and internationally.

In its ruling, the court allowed the group to pursue orders compelling the police to carry out their statutory duties under the Police Act, including questioning individuals last seen with the singer such as his wife, close associates, and his father, and taking further action where necessary.

The court also approved substituted service on the Lagos State Police Command through the office of the Inspector-General of Police’s Legal Department in Abuja.

The case has been adjourned to May 4 for further hearing.

According to court documents, the organisation argued that the initial investigation into Mohbad’s death was inadequate and possibly compromised.

It further claimed that although a nurse linked to his treatment before death was arrested and prosecuted, several key persons were not properly investigated.

The group also noted that although the matter was initially moved to Abuja for a fresh probe following public pressure, it was later returned to Lagos without a conclusive outcome.
