The Centre for Community Excellence (CENCEX) and the Human Rights Agenda Network in Zamfara State have raised alarm over the worsening insecurity situation in the state, labeling it a significant threat to national security…..CONTINUE READING
Speaking to journalists in Gusau, the state capital, on Tuesday, the Executive Director of CENCEX and the State Coordinator of HRAN, Adamu Abubakar Kotorkoshi, expressed deep concern over the unabated violence, kidnappings, and human rights violations plaguing Zamfara and neighboring states.
Kotorkoshi emphasized that the escalating insecurity is swiftly evolving into a national crisis, endangering the very fabric of the nation. He explained that the decision to observe a National Day of Mourning and Remembrance of victims of Mass Atrocities was born out of the urgent need to draw attention to the dire state of national security and the seeming indifference of political leaders to citizens’ plight.
The groups highlighted the profound anguish and apprehension felt by citizens as they commemorated the National Day of Mourning, reflecting on the countless lives lost to violent killings across the country.
They underscored the multifaceted nature of criminal activities in Zamfara and neighboring states, particularly the recurring armed banditry, which poses a grave threat to peace and security. The extortion of farming levies by criminal elements, coupled with rampant kidnappings for ransom, has severely crippled agriculture, the primary source of livelihood in Zamfara.
The plight of women and girls in the region has also been exacerbated by the insecurity, with many facing early widowhood, loss of children, and displacement. The groups condemned the alarming rise in sexual and gender-based violence, including reported cases of rape by bandits, stressing that such atrocities are intolerable.
As staunch advocates for human rights and dignity, the organizations joined voices across Zamfara and the nation in denouncing the relentless attacks on communities by terrorists. They viewed these acts of terrorism as a direct assault on Nigeria’s territorial integrity and a grave threat to national security, urging decisive action to prevent further spread of violence.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
