Represented by the Executive Officer, Commander M.A. Gada, Rogo explained that the vessels, identified as MV Rig Runner and MV Celtic Ebenezer, were apprehended on April 2 and May 2 respectively.
He stated, “They were intercepted by our patrol teams around Madu Oilfield, off the coast of Bayelsa.”
The commanding officer highlighted that both vessels were discovered to be transiting with their automatic identification systems switched off, a violation of maritime regulations.
Rogo reaffirmed the navy’s unwavering commitment to combatting illegal bunkering, crude oil theft, and all other forms of waterway-related crimes.
The action underscores the Nigerian Navy’s dedication to upholding maritime law and safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial waters against illicit activities.
