Urgent Call To Action: Shippers Must Utilize Standard Gauge Rail For Speedier Cargo Delivery
In a bid to enhance cargo delivery speed and efficiency, APM Terminals in Apapa has urged its customers to adopt the standard gauge rail for evacuating cargoes from the port. During the event, attended by 20 importers and exporters, APM Terminals highlighted the successful commencement last year of cargo evacuation via the standard gauge rail line from the Lagos Port Complex Apapa to Moniya Freight Yard in Ibadan. This initiative aims to streamline export and import handling, enhancing trade facilitation.
David Abbey, Nigeria Inland Sales Manager for APMT, emphasized the rail’s crucial role in trade, offering an efficient alternative to road and barge transport. Abbey pointed out that the rail service ensures safety, faster turnaround times, and reliability, thereby improving the ease of doing business for their valued customers.
The awareness trip also featured insights from Adetunji Igbaugba, APMT Nigeria’s Market and Commercial Intelligence Manager, who urged importers and exporters to leverage the standard gauge rail for quick delivery of containers to and from Ibadan. He highlighted the yard’s ample facilities, including an 8,000 square meter area and a 4,000 square meter warehouse, designed for container operations.
The Executive Director of Bueno Logistics Limited, Jedson Nwankwo, lauded the freight yard’s capacity to handle numerous containers, reinforcing the importance of this rail initiative in boosting logistical efficiency.
By prioritizing the use of the standard gauge rail, APM Terminals aims to foster a more reliable and predictable cargo delivery system, ultimately meeting and exceeding customer expectations.

Speaking on his departure, the 57-year-old tactician expressed mixed feelings but took pride in his achievements with the national team.
“That’s football… Saudi Arabia have qualified for the World Cup seven times, including twice with me,” he told AFP.
Renard added, “And there’s only one coach who has taken them through both the qualifiers and the World Cup; that’s me, in 2022. At least there will be that sense of pride.”
He returned for a second spell as Saudi Arabia coach at the end of 2024, having previously managed the side between 2019 and 2023.
During his first stint, he guided Saudi Arabia to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where they famously defeated eventual champions Argentina in the group stage.
Renard is highly regarded for his international coaching record, having won the Africa Cup of Nations twice—first with Zambia and later with Ivory Coast.
He also previously managed the French women’s national team, leading them to the quarter-finals of both the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Olympic Games.
His return to the Saudi job followed the exit of Roberto Mancini, who left after a disappointing 14-month spell.
However, Renard’s second tenure has now ended abruptly ahead of the global tournament.
Reports suggest that former Greece international Georgios Donis is being considered as his possible replacement.
A source close to the discussions told AFP that talks are ongoing between the Saudi Arabian Football Federation and Saudi club Al Khaleej, where Donis has been in charge since 2024.
Saudi Arabia are set to compete in Group H at the 2026 World Cup alongside Spain, Uruguay, and Cape Verde.
The team will now head into the tournament under new leadership as preparations continue for the global competition.

Abdulkarim claimed that Kwankwaso has agreed to serve as Obi’s running mate in the 2027 presidential race, stating that discussions around the arrangement are already known within both the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya political movements.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, he insisted that the deal had been concluded, saying both camps were aware of the agreement.
“Yes, I can categorically tell you that they have agreed. We all know that. Both the Obidients and the Kwankwassiyya Movements are aware of the agreement,” he said.
Kwankwaso’s recent political move from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has further fueled speculation about a possible joint ticket between him and Obi for the 2027 election.
Meanwhile, Peter Obi’s spokesperson, Yunusa Tanko, has argued that political parties seeking victory in 2027 should consider zoning their presidential ticket to the South.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Tanko said maintaining the current power rotation would strengthen any party’s chances at the polls.
He warned that deviating from zoning arrangements could weaken electoral prospects, adding that Nigerians should critically assess the political direction ahead of the 2027 elections.
