Nigerian Customs Intercepts Drugs Worth Over N24m At Kebbi Borders

Details of the Operation:
- Comptroller Aminu Abubakar Danmusa, the coordinator of the patrol team, revealed that the traffickers were apprehended while attempting to smuggle the drugs into Nigeria through the Bachaka and Kangiwa borders, which are located in Argungu and Arewa local government areas of Kebbi State.
- Seized Drugs: The confiscated substances include Cannabis Sativa (Indian Hemp) valued at N18,746,764 and 1,000 pieces of diazepam worth N5,743,187. The total value of the seized drugs amounts to N24,489,951.
During the handover of the intercepted drugs to the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Birnin Kebbi, Comptroller Danmusa highlighted the significant challenges faced by the NCS at the Kebbi borders. These borders are particularly susceptible to drug trafficking due to their proximity to Niger and Benin Republics, with the latter being notorious for drug-related activities.
Danmusa’s Remarks: “Kebbi borders are particularly vulnerable because they border Niger and Benin Republics. And as we know, the Benin Republic is notorious for drug activities.”
He emphasized the detrimental impact of the drug trade on society and called for increased cooperation from border communities to effectively combat this menace.
Response from NDLEA: Commander Suleman Usman of the NDLEA’s Kebbi Command, who accepted the drugs on behalf of the agency, pointed out the national security implications of drug trafficking. He stressed that the issue of drugs and their consequences affects every Nigerian and requires urgent and concerted efforts.
This successful operation by the NCS underscores the ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and its adverse effects on Nigerian society. The collaboration between the NCS and NDLEA is crucial in addressing this persistent threat and ensuring the safety and security of the nation’s borders.

In a statement released on Monday, ASP Mohammed Adeola, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Airport Police Command in Ikeja, clarified that the significant security presence and activity observed at the facility were part of a pre-planned simulation exercise.
According to the Police, this drill was conducted by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) on Thursday, September 10, 2026. The primary objective was to evaluate and enhance the operational readiness and response capabilities of various security and emergency services.
Adeola emphasized that the exercise was designed specifically to test inter-agency coordination in the face of a simulated security threat. Personnel and stakeholders were deployed to recreate a realistic emergency within the airport environment. The goal was to assess existing response mechanisms, communication protocols, command structures, and the overall ability of participating agencies to work together effectively during a crisis.
The Command stressed that this was a controlled, authorised event and categorically stated that it should not be mistaken for an “actual terrorist attack or invasion of the airport.”
Travelers, airport users, and the general public are urged to ignore unverified reports circulating on social media and other platforms. The police cautioned against spreading such misinformation, which can lead to unnecessary fear and panic.
“The Command reassures the public that the security situation at the airport remains under control and that all relevant security agencies remain vigilant and committed to ensuring the safety and security of passengers, airport personnel, facilities, and other stakeholders,” the statement concluded.
