One Dead, Roofs Blown Off As Windstorm Hits Yola Communities

The windstorm, which hit on Tuesday night, claimed the life of a man in the Wuro-Chekke ward. The casualty occurred when a wall collapsed due to the strong winds. The victim’s identity has not yet been confirmed.

In addition to the tragedy in Wuro-Chekke, the storm caused severe damage in the nearby community of Mbambam. The winds were powerful enough to blow off roofs and topple walls. Among the affected structures were private residences and the staff quarters at the Mopol 14 Barracks in Mbambam.

Residents reported that the rainfall accompanying the windstorm was relatively light, despite the significant damage caused by the winds.

While Wuro-Chekke and Mbambam bore the brunt of the storm, the rest of Yola experienced a cooling effect from the rain after a particularly hot day. Temperatures, which had peaked at 42°C around 3 PM and remained at 37°C by 7 PM, dropped considerably following the rain.

Residents are now grappling with the aftermath of the storm, assessing the damage and beginning the process of recovery.

BEHIND CLOSED DOORS: Dangote’s Daughter Finally Spills The Truth About Their Low-Profile Lifestyle

Published

on

Halima Dangote—daughter of African billionaire Aliko Dangote—along with her sisters Mariya and Fatima, has deliberately chosen to stay out of the public spotlight.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In an interview with Bloomberg’s Next Africa, Halima shared that instead of seeking attention or flaunting their wealth and lifestyles on social media, the sisters prefer to let their corporate achievements speak for themselves.

Key Takeaways:

  • Focus on Professionalism: The sisters want to be evaluated based on their hard work, business metrics, and contributions rather than their famous family name.

  • Rising Corporate Responsibilities: While keeping a low profile was easier in the past, their expanding leadership roles within the Dangote Group have made total anonymity increasingly difficult.

  • Letting Numbers Talk: Halima emphasized that their impact is reflected in tangible business outcomes—such as corporate growth, sales, profits, and overall performance figures—rather than online expression.

“We are more… we’re quiet in the sense that we don’t say who we are… the results are just the ones speaking for themselves: the sale of this business, the profit of this, the EBITDA, our growth… numbers don’t lie.”Halima Dangote
