Inner Galaxy Steel Company Responds To Abia Crane Operator’s Death Allegations

Inner Galaxy Steel Company, located in Umuahala-Obuzor, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, has issued a statement regarding the death of Ocheze Ogbonna, a crane operator at the facility…….CONTINUE READING....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Reports initially suggested that a Chinese expatriate at the company had pushed Ogbonna off the crane following her rejection of his romantic advances. Chris Nkwonta, the representative for Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, condemned the alleged act, describing it as a grave violation of human dignity and calling for justice.

Nkwonta expressed deep sorrow over Ogbonna’s death and criticized the actions of the expatriate, highlighting the peaceful nature of his constituency and demanding accountability.

However, in a statement released on Wednesday, Inner Galaxy Steel Company’s Public Affairs Manager, Ceng Jing, refuted these allegations. Jing stated that Ogbonna’s death was a tragic accident caused by her falling asleep while operating the crane, and not due to any intentional harm. Jing emphasized that Nigerian workers present at the scene could confirm this account.

“We are making this statement to address the tragic incident that occurred at our facility, resulting in the accidental death of our staff member, Miss Vivian Ocheze Munachim, a crane operator. We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues. Regrettably, social media misinformation has spread false allegations that a Chinese staff member pushed Miss Ocheze off the crane. These claims are entirely unfounded and have been thoroughly investigated and found to be false,” Jing stated.

The statement further described the violent aftermath of the incident, where misinformation led to looting and vandalism of company property. Inner Galaxy Steel Company urged the public to remain calm and allow law enforcement to conduct an independent investigation.

“We are cooperating fully with the police investigation and want to assure the public that Inner Galaxy Steel Co. Nig. Ltd. is not culpable in Miss Ocheze’s death. We value the safety and well-being of our employees and are committed to providing a secure working environment,” Jing added.

The company also committed to supporting Ogbonna’s family and providing necessary compensation.

The investigation is ongoing, and the public is urged to refrain from spreading unverified information to avoid further unrest.
