In a heartfelt interview with Sunday Scoop, Ojo reflected on the memorable moments of the awards ceremony, particularly the shared joy when his co-star, Chimezie Imo, won the Trailblazer Award. He also cherished the multiple accolades garnered by Breath of Life, cementing its success.
Ojo, brimming with pride, remarked, “It is always great to be recognised by one’s peers and everyone. I felt good and we came out tops, so it was a crowning achievement.”
Sharing his experience from the set, he noted the strong sense of camaraderie among the cast and crew, a factor that contributed to the film’s success. “It was great. There was great camaraderie between the actors and the crew, and everyone worked hard. It also helped that Ibadan (where the movie was shot) is my hometown, so I was able to do what I wanted to do,” he said.
Ojo also addressed the evolving standards of Nollywood, expressing a bold vision for the industry. “We have an international standard, but we still have a long way to go. I would really like us to compete with Hollywood. People in some parts of the world still look down on us, and I don’t want that to happen. That is what we are aiming for at my company—New Nigeria Cinema—to add value, and compete one on one with Hollywood.”
Wale Ojo’s ambitions reflect a growing confidence in Nollywood’s potential to reach new heights and gain global recognition, promising an exciting future for African cinema.
