The targeted shops were found selling “Dr. Teal’s” brand cosmetics, prompting NAFDAC to seize samples for rigorous laboratory testing to ensure consumer safety and product authenticity.
NAFDAC’s enforcement unit, led by Chief Regulatory Officer Ishildi Sunday, conducted raids at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex, as well as several prominent cosmetics outlets in Egbeada and Ikeja. Sunday emphasized that any product lacking NAFDAC registration is deemed counterfeit, posing potential risks to public health.
Addressing journalists, Sunday reiterated NAFDAC’s commitment to safeguarding Nigerian health by ensuring the quality and safety of regulated products. He outlined that sanctions, including hefty fines up to ₦5 million, await offenders found guilty of selling, manufacturing, or distributing unregistered products.
Affected shops will face closure until necessary penalties are meted out, underscoring NAFDAC’s zero-tolerance stance towards violators in the cosmetics industry. Retailers and suppliers are warned to adhere to regulatory standards to avoid severe consequences.
