The administration of President Bola Tinubu has approved a ₦10 billion housing loan scheme designed to expand access to home ownership for civil servants nationwide.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, announced this on Friday during a press briefing in Abuja, explaining that the programme will be implemented through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board.

She stated that the initiative aims to make home ownership more attainable for public servants, noting that a stable home environment contributes to greater productivity and commitment in the workplace.

According to her, “A person who owns a home carries themselves differently. When civil servants are assured that their families have a place to call their own, they work with greater confidence, stability, and focus.”

Walson-Jack added that the housing scheme reflects a broader governance approach focused on strengthening the workforce rather than being a mere welfare intervention.

She explained that the administration believes a better-supported civil service will ultimately lead to improved national performance and service delivery.

She also highlighted ongoing reforms aimed at modernising the public service, including the transition to a digital, paperless, and more transparent system driven by innovation and accountability.

Reaffirming her commitment, she said efforts are ongoing to ensure civil servants are equipped with the right skills, tools, and institutional support to maximise their potential.

Walson-Jack noted that the progress recorded so far is the result of collaboration among key government institutions, including the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Budget Office, and the Office of the Accountant General.

She described this inter-agency cooperation as essential to achieving national development goals, stressing the importance of avoiding institutional silos.

Looking ahead to Workers’ Day, she said the celebration would carry special significance for civil servants, as it reflects renewed recognition of their contributions to nation-building.

She commended workers for their dedication and resilience, adding that their efforts have not gone unnoticed despite challenging conditions, and urged them to remain committed to excellence in service delivery.

During a recent visit to Washington, D.C., Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), argued that the prevalence of election rigging in Nigeria is largely due to voters failing to actively defend their ballots. Obi emphasized that while candidates play a role in the process, credible outcomes ultimately depend on citizens remaining at their polling units to ensure votes are counted transparently. He criticized the “transactional” nature of Nigerian politics, suggesting that many voters prioritize other activities over the essential task of monitoring the electoral process. According to Obi, Nigeria’s primary challenge is poor political leadership, and he urged citizens to take collective ownership of their votes to demand the accountable governance required for the country to succeed.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for increased citizen involvement in protecting electoral integrity. During a recent trip to Washington, D.C., Obi stated that election manipulation persists because voters frequently leave polling stations before the counting process is completed. He argued that:

  • Voters must proactively defend their ballots at polling units to ensure transparency and prevent rigging.

  • Nigeria’s fundamental obstacle is a crisis of political leadership, rather than a lack of natural or human resources.

  • Real change requires Nigerians to move beyond passive participation and take active responsibility for the electoral process.
