SERAP Urges Tinubu To Probe Alleged ₦2.9bn Missing Funds In NIGCOMSAT, NNRA.

Published

on

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to direct a full investigation into the alleged disappearance or diversion of about ₦2.9bn involving the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) and the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that the demand was contained in a letter dated April 11, 2026, signed by SERAP Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, urging the President to ensure accountability based on findings in the latest Auditor-General’s report.

SERAP asked Tinubu to mandate the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, alongside the management of both agencies, to account for the funds in question.

It also urged the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), as well as anti-corruption agencies, to investigate the allegations and prosecute anyone found culpable.

According to SERAP, any misappropriated funds should be fully recovered and returned to the national treasury.

The organisation said the allegations were contained in the Auditor-General’s report released on September 9, 2025, and raised serious concerns about financial mismanagement and lack of transparency in the affected agencies.

It described the claims as a breach of public trust and Nigeria’s anti-corruption obligations, warning that such irregularities undermine national development and public safety.

SERAP specifically cited an alleged ₦465m unauthorised investment by NIGCOMSAT in Gicell Wireless Ltd, saying the transaction was carried out without required approvals or proper documentation.

It also noted that there was no evidence of due diligence or investment appraisal before the funds were committed.

The group further urged the government to disclose the ownership structure of the company involved in the transaction.

On NNRA, SERAP referenced the Auditor-General’s findings that over ₦4.35m was paid for training programmes without proof that they took place, and more than ₦16m spent on ICT equipment without approval.

It said the lack of supporting documentation raised concerns that due process was not followed.

SERAP warned that it may take legal action if the government fails to respond within seven days, insisting that accountability is necessary to protect public interest and strengthen anti-corruption efforts.

He warned against dragging the state into fresh tension, accusing the state government of attempting to revive old allegations for political advantage.

Adewara said the PDP would not remain silent while what he called “political narratives” are used to influence public perception around a tragic incident that claimed multiple lives in Offa in 2018.

He also urged residents, especially affected families, not to allow their pain to be used for political gains, insisting it is unjust to associate Saraki with the crime.
