While the exact nature of the allegations remains unclear, they are said to relate to Badejo’s online publications and social media posts, which reportedly targeted the clerics.

As of press time, the police had not issued an official statement specifying the charges or the legal grounds for her detention.

Badejo has previously been involved in legal disputes with the clerics. In March 2022, the UK High Court of Justice (Queen’s Bench Division) ruled that Apostle Suleman must pay £19,601 to Badejo in a defamation suit he filed against her.

However, in August 2023, Badejo rejected Suleman’s offer to settle the judgment in monthly instalments of £500. Court records show that UK Judge His Honour Judge Lewis, under Claim No. QB-2022-000504, dismissed Suleman’s application and upheld Badejo’s legal costs. Following the ruling, Nigerians in the diaspora reportedly crowdfunded legal fees to support her defence.

Badejo has also published stories involving other controversies. In December 2023, SaharaReporters reported that Sunday Bawura Olowoyeye, a former MFM pastor, filed a ₦1 billion lawsuit against Pastor Olukoya over alleged unlawful detention. Olowoyeye, who joined MFM in 1993, claimed he was held at FCID Alagbon for 16 days after sharing his grievances with Badejo, who subsequently published his story online. “They neglected me and my family when my wife was critically ill,” Olowoyeye said.

Badejo has conducted interviews with several individuals who have accused both Suleman and Olukoya of misconduct, many of which remain publicly unaddressed or unrefuted by the clerics.

The new rates, effective Wednesday, mark a ₦100 drop from ₦1,230 per litre in Lagos and a ₦95 decrease from ₦1,260 per litre in Abuja.

Observations show that several NNPCL outlets in Lagos, including stations along Isheri Oshun Road, Apple Junction, and Ago Palace Way, have already implemented the revised prices. In Abuja, motorists saw the new ₦1,165 per litre rate at stations in Jabi and Wuse.

The adjustment provides modest relief to consumers who have faced repeated fuel price hikes in recent months.

The reduction comes even as many oil marketers have yet to reflect the earlier ₦100 per litre cut in petrol’s gantry price by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, which lowered its price to ₦1,075 following a dip in global crude oil prices.

The previous spike in crude prices was driven by geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Iran, and Israel, which raised concerns over potential disruptions to global oil supply, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, a key transit route for oil shipments.

Prices began to ease after former U.S. President Donald Trump suggested the conflict could be resolved soon, alleviating fears of prolonged supply shortages. Brent crude, the global benchmark, fell by about 8.45%, dropping from roughly $110 per barrel to around $92 per barrel. The decline also followed European ministers’ discussions on releasing strategic oil reserves to stabilise energy markets.
