According to Nivo News, this will mark the sixth AFCON meeting between the two sides, with Morocco leading the head-to-head record three wins to Nigeria’s two. Their last AFCON encounter was in the 2004 group stage, when Mustapha Hadji scored the lone goal for Morocco in a 1-0 victory.
Both teams enter the semi-final in impressive form. Nigeria has won all five of its previous matches against Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Mozambique, and Algeria, scoring 14 goals—the highest tally in the tournament so far—thanks to key contributions from Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Akor Adams, Raphael Onyedika, and Semi Ajayi. The Super Eagles aim for their ninth AFCON final and only their second consecutive final appearance in history. Head coach Eric Chelle will, however, be without captain Wilfred Ndidi, who is suspended after receiving a second yellow card in the quarter-final win over Algeria.
Morocco has also been in strong form, winning four of their last five matches. Real Madrid’s Brahim Díaz has been pivotal, scoring in five consecutive games and contributing more than half of the team’s nine goals. The Atlas Lions boast the tournament’s best defensive record, conceding only one goal. Morocco will miss Girona midfielder Azzedine Ounahi due to a persistent calf injury.
Analysts highlight Nigeria’s squad depth as a key advantage. Lagos-based journalist Femi Fabunmi predicts that the Super Eagles’ performances and tactical balance will see them defeat Morocco and advance to the final. “The Super Eagles are by far the best team in this AFCON. They have squad depth and a perfect replacement for every player in all departments on the field,” Fabunmi said, adding a predicted 3-1 scoreline in Nigeria’s favour.
Nigeria will be seeking redemption after finishing runner-up in the last AFCON edition in Ivory Coast and missing out on the 2026 World Cup qualification following defeat to DR Congo. Morocco, meanwhile, will rely on home support to reach the final for only the third time in its history.
