The APC indicated that the impeachment threat appears to be connected to budgetary matters, which it argued do not justify extreme legislative action. The party noted that the federal budget for Rivers State, transmitted during the period of emergency rule in May 2025, was approved by the National Assembly in June and July 2025 with a total allocation of ₦1.485 trillion, intended to run through August 2026. The APC emphasized that the Constitution allows a governor to continue spending for up to six months into a new fiscal year without presenting a supplementary budget.

The party warned that unresolved internal crises within the Peoples Democratic Party should not be allowed to spill over and destabilize an APC-led government. It urged members of the State House of Assembly, particularly those elected on the APC platform, to resist external pressure and discontinue the impeachment process. According to the statement, continuing with the proceedings could harm the party’s image and derail ongoing development initiatives in the state.

The APC called on political actors to uphold democratic principles and prioritize governance, cautioning against letting political rivalries compromise peace and stability in Rivers State.
