The Senate President had raised the concern during plenary on Friday, warning that the directive to withdraw security personnel attached to Very Important Persons could expose members of the National Assembly to security risks. Akpabio explained that some lawmakers feared they might be unable to return home safely, prompting the leadership of the Senate to appeal to the President for a review of the policy.

In a pointed response shared via her Facebook page on Sunday, Akpoti-Uduaghan appeared to take a swipe at the Senate President. Echoing his remarks, she quoted the appeal suggesting that some senators might not be able to go home for the holidays due to security concerns.

Reacting further, the outspoken lawmaker questioned the sudden concern, recalling that her own security detail was withdrawn during what she described as an illegal suspension from the Senate. She stated that her safety now rests with divine protection and the unwavering support of the people of Kogi Central, whom she described as her true security.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was previously suspended from the Senate for six months, with her legislative privileges withdrawn over allegations of misconduct on the floor of the chamber.

President Tinubu had, in November, ordered the redeployment of police officers attached to politicians, business figures, and other VIPs to boost frontline policing across the country. The move was aimed at strengthening public safety and addressing manpower shortages in critical security areas amid rising insecurity nationwide.
