Justice Maryam Hassan granted Ngige bail, adopting the administrative bail terms previously approved by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The court ordered that Ngige produce one surety who is a federal government director with property in the Federal Capital Territory. He was also required to submit his travel documents to the court, with the judge noting that bail conditions should not be unreasonably stringent. The trial has been adjourned to January 28 and 29, 2026.

Ngige was arraigned last Friday on an eight-count charge involving alleged ₦2.2 billion contract fraud and abuse of office linked to the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF). He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre, pending bail determination. The charges allege that Ngige accepted kickbacks from companies awarded NSITF contracts and used his office to favor associates in contract allocations. These offences are punishable under the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

The EFCC, represented by Sylvanus Tahir, SAN, opposed Ngige’s bail application, urging the court to reject it.
