Borno Governor Reveals ₦100 Billion Security Spending Amid Rising Insecurity.
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has disclosed that his administration spent nearly ₦100 billion on security initiatives across the state in 2025.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The governor made the revelation during a condolence visit to the Emir of Uba, Alhaji Ali Ibn Mamza, following recent attacks in the area that resulted in multiple casualties. Zulum commended security agencies and local communities for their prompt response, which led to the rescue of 12 abducted female farmers, highlighting the resilience of the people.
Zulum explained that the purpose of his visit to Askira/Uba was to evaluate the security situation and identify immediate measures to address ongoing threats. He expressed concern that insecurity had disrupted key infrastructure projects, as contractors were reluctant to operate in the area.
“My visit is to assess the security situation and meet with security agents to ensure stability in Askira/Uba,” the governor said, stressing that insecurity remains a significant impediment to development.
He emphasized the importance of security for peace and progress, noting that planned road construction projects have stalled because no contractor is willing to work under the current conditions. To address this, his administration established a quarry site in Gwoza and acquired 100 trucks to enable the Borno State Road Maintenance Agency to execute road projects independently of external contractors.
Reaffirming his commitment to development in Askira/Uba, Zulum highlighted plans to deliver essential educational and healthcare infrastructure before leaving office, including a higher institution, a Computer Institute, a JAMB center, and a tertiary campus in Uba.
“Security spending this year alone reached about ₦100 billion. We are determined to invest in education, health, and infrastructure to strengthen the foundations on the ground,” he added.
In response, the Emir of Uba thanked the governor for his timely visit and praised his administration’s numerous development projects across the state. “You have done a lot for us, and your continued efforts are deeply appreciated. If not for your initiatives, we would be facing severe challenges,” the monarch remarked.
