According to Nivo News, human rights activist Liborous Oshoma has attributed the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the failures of its past leaders. Oshoma stated that the PDP turned to Wike for support after former leaders abandoned the party during its most critical moments. He explained, “I would not just start the crisis of PDP from 2023. I would first and foremost blame the past presidents that the platform of the PDP produced for abandoning the party when it needed them most. At that time, it suddenly dawned on them that there was no money to run the party. Some persons went to mortgage the party to Modu Sheriff. Atiku had left. Obasanjo had torn his PDP card. And then they quickly ran to Wike.”

He further argued that this move effectively “mortgaged the party’s future” to the then Rivers State governor without fully considering the repercussions. Highlighting the party’s legal disputes, Oshoma pointed to the prolonged conflict between the Federal High Court in Abuja and the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, noting, “It shows truly that something is wrong.”

Oshoma also criticized Wike for turning against PDP leaders he previously supported, stating, “You said you wanted Uche Secondus out, he went out. Atiku was your problem, Atiku had gone. Now Damagum came. You were in hot romance with him until now. Enough should be enough.”

On the contentious Ibadan convention, Oshoma condemned the persistent clashes between courts of coordinate jurisdiction, explaining, “It’s sad and unfortunate that at this day and time, we’re still having a ping-pong of judgments and court orders. When courts of coordinate jurisdiction clash, you pick and choose which to obey. In this case, the last court order, from Oyo State, was obeyed, and they went ahead with the convention.”

Joshua is scheduled to fight Paul on December 19 in what many analysts describe as a risky encounter. The appeal came during the 2nd annual Sir Mobolaji Bank-Anthony Memorial Lecture held on Wednesday at Ayinke House, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH). Guest lecturer and consultant obstetrician and gynecologist, Dr. Lateef Akinola, criticized years of mismanagement of national resources, noting that it is unacceptable for Nigeria to struggle with providing quality healthcare despite its economic capacity.

Dr. Akinola drew attention to the ongoing resident doctors’ strike, now in its second week, describing it as a symptom of long-standing neglect of medical personnel welfare. He explained that many teaching and tertiary hospitals have become partially inactive, with only a limited number of staff and consultants keeping services operational. He also lamented the impact on patients, noting that Ayinke House, once a thriving medical centre, now experiences reduced patient turnout.

Highlighting the financial barriers to private healthcare, Dr. Akinola warned that many Nigerians are at risk of worsening health outcomes. He urged the government to prioritize investments across all tiers of healthcare, emphasizing the development and retention of medical personnel through improved pay, housing, and working conditions. He also noted that Nigeria spends roughly five per cent of its GDP on health, far below the recommended 15 per cent, stressing that closing this gap is essential for building a healthier, more productive nation.

While the lecture focused on AI’s role in fertility treatment, Dr. Akinola noted that AI’s applications extend beyond medicine into sectors like e-commerce, social media, and education, enhancing precision, automation, and efficiency.

Dr. (Mrs.) T.O. Otun, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Ayinke House, used the occasion to honour the philanthropist Sir Mobolaji Bank-Anthony, whose donation established the hospital. She recounted that the hospital initially had limited space, only two theatres, and a small maternal care chalet. Following renovations between 2010 and 2019, Ayinke House expanded to 170 beds and now includes ICUs, upgraded laboratories, ultrasound units, and a large pool of consultants.

Funmi Bank-Anthony, representing the Bank-Anthony family, described the lecture as insightful and reiterated the family’s commitment to preserving Sir Mobolaji’s legacy, including further support for Ayinke House.

Speaking on behalf of LASUTH’s Chief Medical Director, Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo, Professor Adekoya said the lecture aimed not only to honour Sir Mobolaji Bank-Anthony but also to inspire others to contribute meaningfully to the healthcare sector. He stressed that celebrating such legacies should encourage individuals and organisations to support healthcare development across Nigeria.
