Published

on

According to Nivo News, the Federal Government has urged Nigerians to unite against terrorism, banditry and all forms of violent criminality, warning citizens not to fall for misinformation or attempts to frame recent attacks along religious lines. Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stressed that national unity remained essential as the country battles persistent security threats perpetrated by groups intent on destabilising Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Idris emphasised that the nation’s true adversaries are terrorists and criminals who target citizens indiscriminately, noting that efforts to portray the recent attacks as religiously motivated were misleading and harmful to the country’s cohesion. He stated that the government completely rejects any interpretation of current security incidents as faith-based, insisting such narratives are both inaccurate and dangerous for national stability.

The minister clarified that Nigeria’s security crisis is driven by terrorism and organised crime rather than religious persecution, adding that these violent actors do not differentiate between victims. He also conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s condolences to the families affected by recent tragedies, including the killing of a senior Army General, the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State, and the attack on a church in Kwara State.

Idris revealed that President Tinubu has ordered the nation’s entire security system into its “highest alert ever” and has postponed his planned attendance at the upcoming G20 Summit in South Africa in order to focus on tackling the worsening security situation. Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently in Birnin Kebbi, where he is holding meetings with state officials, community leaders and families of the kidnapped schoolgirls.

He added that security agencies have been directed to urgently rescue the abducted students from Kebbi State and ensure their safe return to their homes. Idris reiterated that Nigeria’s security challenges cut across ethnic and religious boundaries and have been acknowledged by global religious figures and international partners as non-sectarian in nature. He reaffirmed that Nigeria, as a multi-faith nation, must continue to uphold the constitutional guarantee of freedom of worship.

Expressing confidence that the abducted schoolgirls will be safely recovered, Idris said the government was deploying every available resource and strategy to decisively confront the country’s security challenges. He assured that the administration remains committed to securing Nigeria’s future and restoring peace.

Earlier reports indicated that at least two people were killed and another injured following an attack in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, where armed men invaded a parish of the Christ Apostolic Church during a service, an incident that was livestreamed online. In a separate pre-dawn assault, gunmen struck Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State’s Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, abducting 25 students and killing a staff member.
