Journalist Warns Nigerians Abroad: Beware Fake Land Agents In Lagos’ Fastest-Growing Hub
As Ibeju-Lekki cements its position as one of Africa’s fastest-growing real estate hubs, concerns are rising over an increase in land scams targeting unsuspecting buyers, particularly Nigerians in the diaspora returning home for the festive season.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Once a quiet suburb, Ibeju-Lekki has transformed into a prime investment destination, driven by large-scale projects such as the Dangote Refinery, Lekki Deep Seaport, and the proposed Lekki International Airport. These developments have significantly increased land values, drawing investors from across the globe.
However, the rapid growth has also attracted fraudulent actors seeking to exploit unsuspecting buyers. Prominent journalist Gbolahan Adetayo has issued a strong warning to Nigerians abroad planning to purchase land in Ibeju-Lekki during the upcoming holiday season.
Adetayo cautioned that while many investors will return with genuine intentions to secure property, others may fall victim to deceitful agents posing as legitimate real estate professionals. “Christmas is approaching, and many Nigerians will celebrate profitable investments, while others will return online lamenting losses from fraudulent land deals. January usually sees a surge in such complaints,” he said.
Over the years, numerous cases of land fraud, illegal sales, and harassment by local landowners (“Omo Onile”) have been reported, resulting in significant financial losses for diaspora buyers. Adetayo advised prospective buyers to engage only with trusted and verified developers to avoid such pitfalls.
He endorsed Harmony Garden and Estate Development Ltd, known for the Seven Citadels of Joy initiative, describing it as a reliable platform for both local and international investors seeking accessible home ownership. He highlighted the leadership of Hon. Dr. Saheed Mosadoluwa, the real estate entrepreneur behind the “Ibile Traditional Mortgage System,” which aims to deliver 10,000 homes over five years.
Harmony Garden operates multiple reputable estates, including Granville Estate, Lekki Aviation Town, Majestic Bay, The Parliaments, Harmony Casa 2.0, Oju-Alaro GRA, and Harmonyville Estate, all strategically situated along the Lekki-Epe Expressway. The company has gained a reputation for its strict stance against corruption, land grabbing, and unethical practices.
Experts note that Harmony Garden’s strategic land acquisitions near key infrastructures, such as the Dangote Refinery, Lekki Deep Seaport, the proposed Lekki International Airport, and expanding road networks, have contributed to the rising value of its estates.
Adetayo emphasised that Harmony Garden’s commitment to transparency and long-term value creation has earned national recognition, making it one of Nigeria’s top-selling real estate firms offering housing solutions across income levels. “In an industry frequently tainted by fraudulent operators, Harmony Garden stands out for integrity. This is why I recommend them to anyone buying property in Ibeju-Lekki,” he stated.
With the festive season approaching, Adetayo’s advice to Nigerians in the diaspora is clear: verify all details, invest wisely, and engage only with reputable developers. As Ibeju-Lekki continues its rapid transformation, the opportunities—and the risks—have never been greater.
