According to Nivo News, security sources disclosed that the officers escaped shortly before a new round of arrests began in connection with the failed coup attempt, which has already led to the detention of at least sixteen officers since early October.

One of the absconding officers was identified as Major J.M. Ganaks, with service number N/14363, a member of Regular Course 58 of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA). He is from the Federal Capital Territory and was last stationed in Jaji, Kaduna State.

The second officer, Captain G. Binuga, with service number N/167722, hails from Taraba State and was part of Regular Course 64. His last posting was at the Defence Headquarters Special Operations Force (SOF) in Bida, Niger State.

Reports indicate that both men were among eighteen personnel initially marked for arrest but managed to evade capture and have now reportedly left the country.

Investigations led by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) are said to have produced “useful statements” from detained officers, aiding further arrests. A senior security official confirmed that the intelligence gathered from interrogations has helped authorities detain more suspects, bringing the total number to over thirty.

“While some of the detained officers have remained silent, several others have been cooperative,” the source revealed.

The arrests are part of a broader nationwide clampdown on suspected military personnel allegedly involved in plans to destabilize President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a viral video circulating online, the Lagos transport chief and close ally of President Tinubu stated that the funds were drawn solely from his personal resources, insisting that he received no financial assistance from Abuja.

“I spent ₦756 million of my own money during the campaign. Nobody from Abuja gave me a dime. I paid for hotels and took care of everyone working day and night for Asiwaju’s victory,” MC Oluomo said.

The NURTW leader detailed that he booked 140 hotel rooms at ₦45,000 per night for four months and also financed daily stipends, logistics, and other campaign expenses for Nollywood actors, actresses, and volunteers who joined the campaign trail.

Reaffirming his loyalty to President Tinubu, MC Oluomo vowed to remain steadfast in his political support and revealed that plans were already underway for the 2027 general elections.

“We’re not resting. 2027 is around the corner, and we’re already working to make sure Asiwaju wins again,” he declared confidently.
