“I’ve Been Rejected For Being Too Chubby…Even Too Slim” – Emeka Okoye Reveals Career Struggles.

Published

Nollywood actor Emeka Okoye has revealed that his physical appearance has led to the loss of several acting opportunities throughout his career. According to the actor, who began his career in 1999, his chubby physique has often prompted producers to overlook him for certain roles.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Okoye disclosed in an interview with Saturday Sun that he has faced rejection multiple times, even when he was slimmer, as some filmmakers then considered him too small for their preferred characters. Despite these setbacks, he expressed gratitude for the roles he has secured and satisfaction with the progress he has made in the industry.

The “To Kill A Monkey” star reflected on his Nollywood journey, recalling his debut in Prophet of Darkness in Asaba and the numerous challenges he encountered along the way. He credited his resilience to his strong faith and unwavering dedication, which have helped him stay focused amid obstacles.

Okoye further explained that his acting decisions are guided by his covenant with God, which is why he avoids intimate scenes that conflict with his beliefs. Following a health scare earlier this year, the actor said he is particularly thankful for life and described 2025 as one of his most rewarding years.

He stated: “Yes, I have lost movie roles several times because of my looks. Ironically, when I was slimmer, I also lost roles because I was considered too small. But I’m content and grateful for every opportunity. It has always been God’s guidance. Since I started acting in 1999, I’ve turned down roles that go against my covenant with God. I do ‘safe kissing’ scenes like in Ms. Counselor but not deep or tongue-to-tongue kissing. During my early days, I experienced the good, the bad, and the ugly, but I never allowed the challenges to deter me. I stayed true to my calling. Weeks later, I got a call that Madam Kemi had picked me for the role in a Netflix Original. I screamed, knelt down, and burst into praise.”

In a viral video circulating online, the Lagos transport chief and close ally of President Tinubu stated that the funds were drawn solely from his personal resources, insisting that he received no financial assistance from Abuja.

“I spent ₦756 million of my own money during the campaign. Nobody from Abuja gave me a dime. I paid for hotels and took care of everyone working day and night for Asiwaju’s victory,” MC Oluomo said.

The NURTW leader detailed that he booked 140 hotel rooms at ₦45,000 per night for four months and also financed daily stipends, logistics, and other campaign expenses for Nollywood actors, actresses, and volunteers who joined the campaign trail.

He explained that the heavy spending was aimed at ensuring effective mobilisation and coordination for Tinubu’s success across Lagos and other states. “I took care of accommodation, feeding, and transportation for all the campaign teams, including entertainers and volunteers who came to support us,” he added.

Reaffirming his loyalty to President Tinubu, MC Oluomo vowed to remain steadfast in his political support and revealed that plans were already underway for the 2027 general elections.

“We’re not resting. 2027 is around the corner, and we’re already working to make sure Asiwaju wins again,” he declared confidently.
