According to Nivo News, Cameroon’s long-serving President, Paul Biya, aged 92, has once again secured victory in the country’s 2025 presidential election, extending his leadership by another seven years.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Constitutional Council officially confirmed on Monday that Biya garnered 53.66 percent of the total votes, defeating his closest rival, Issa Tchiroma, who scored 35.19 percent. The election, which took place on October 12, had its results certified nearly two weeks later.

Opposition candidate Tchiroma, who has been one of Biya’s most vocal critics over the years, rejected the results, alleging electoral manipulation. He claimed he actually won the election with 54.8 percent of the votes and called on his supporters to remain calm while protesting peacefully, despite government restrictions on public gatherings.

Reports from Nivo News indicate that tensions escalated in Douala on Sunday when confrontations erupted between opposition supporters and security forces. According to the Littoral Regional Governor, Samuel Dieudonne Ivaha Diboua, four individuals lost their lives in the unrest, while several law enforcement officers sustained injuries. He noted that demonstrators allegedly attacked a gendarmerie post and two police stations during the confrontation.

With this new victory, Biya—who first assumed office in 1982—will now embark on his eighth term in power, further solidifying his position as one of Africa’s longest-serving and most enduring leaders.

Tension In Abuja As JAMB Officials Storm Out Of House Of Reps Meeting

A dramatic scene unfolded at the National Assembly on Wednesday when officials of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) walked out during an investigative session with the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Nivo News, the lawmakers had summoned the JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, to present certain documents before the committee. However, Oloyede was absent and sent a representative, Director Mufutau Bello, who appeared alongside other top officials of the Board.

Tension arose when Bello reportedly insisted that journalists should not be present during his presentation, arguing that the documents contained sensitive information. The committee members, however, rejected his request, insisting that the session was a public hearing and that the Board had no authority to determine how parliamentary proceedings should be conducted.

The disagreement quickly escalated, leading Bello to order his team to walk out of the session, an action that left the lawmakers visibly shocked.

In reaction, the committee directed the Sergeant-at-Arms to arrest the JAMB officials, but they had already exited the National Assembly complex before the order could be executed.

Following the incident, the committee issued an ultimatum, mandating JAMB Registrar Professor Oloyede to appear in person before next Tuesday to present the required documents. Lawmakers warned that failure to comply could result in the issuance of a warrant of arrest.

According to Nivo News, popular Nigerian rapper Oladips has alleged that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) collected ₦10 million from him before granting his release following his arrest in 2024.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The artist made this revelation during an interview on the Trending podcast, where he recounted his experience during the five days he spent in EFCC custody after being arrested in a midnight raid at his estate last November.

Oladips explained that he was detained alongside several neighbours on suspicion of internet fraud but maintained that nothing incriminating was discovered against him. He expressed frustration over the alleged extortion, describing his ordeal as a reflection of the country’s flawed system.

“It’s just one smelling place. They packed us there like sardines and gave us nonsense food. Funny enough, it was Zlatan that was sending me food. He’s more like family,” Oladips shared. “I wasn’t even supposed to be there. They didn’t find anything on me, not even a single thing, and they still collected ₦10 million before they released me.”

When asked if he would take legal action against the agency, Oladips responded rhetorically, “Who is my father? It’s just me and my truth. I don’t even know how the system works. They know I’m saying the truth. They collected money from me without finding anything on me. What was the money for? What was all that stress for? Nigeria just happened to me.”
