TETFund Allocates ₦850m To Offa Poly In 2024 Alone, Rector Pushes For Hostel, Energy Projects
The Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Dr. Kamoru O. Kadiri, has disclosed that the institution has benefitted from over ₦4 billion intervention funds from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for infrastructural development.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking during a TETFund town hall meeting in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, Dr. Kadiri commended the consistent intervention of the Fund, stressing that without it, many tertiary institutions in Nigeria would have degenerated into what he described as “glorified secondary schools.”
According to him, the allocation covers different categories of intervention, including special, high-impact, and normal infrastructural support. He revealed that in 2024 alone, the polytechnic received ₦850 million for infrastructural projects.
While appreciating the significant support, the Rector appealed for more investments in students’ hostels, noting that the polytechnic’s population has risen to over 18,000, with pressing need for at least a 3,000-capacity accommodation facility. He also emphasized the importance of TETFund’s intervention in energy supply and utility vehicles to enhance administrative operations.
On the issue of sustainability, Dr. Kadiri explained that TETFund had directed institutions to focus on the maintenance of existing structures this year rather than new constructions. He said ₦250 million was earmarked for this purpose, with about 30 percent allocated to laboratory equipment and the remainder for refurbishing aging campus buildings.
Dr. Kadiri reiterated that the impact of TETFund’s interventions continues to transform learning environments in Nigerian tertiary institutions, ensuring their survival and competitiveness.
