The team clinched third place overall with a medal haul of 79, comprising 33 gold, 18 silver, and 28 bronze. Receiving the athletes at the Government House in Benin City, Governor Okpebholo commended their resilience, discipline, and commitment, emphasizing that their achievement had brought honour and pride to the state.

The governor congratulated the athletes for their outstanding effort, urging them to remain focused and strive for even greater success in subsequent editions of the Games. He further challenged them to aim for first place in future competitions, assuring that his administration would continue to support sports development and athlete welfare.

“I commend our team for putting in their best and securing third position with 33 gold, 18 silver, and 28 bronze medals. This is impressive, but Edo deserves first place. With greater commitment and discipline, I believe we will get there. For your hard work, I am pleased to reward you with ₦10 million,” he stated.

Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Amadin Desmond Enabulele, expressed appreciation to the governor for his unwavering support, describing it as a decisive factor in the team’s record-breaking performance. He presented the second runner-up trophy to the governor and assured that with continued government backing, Team Edo would surpass this milestone in future competitions.

According to Enabulele, the unprecedented medal tally was made possible by the administration’s prioritization of athletes’ welfare and investment in sports infrastructure. He stressed that the governor’s commitment had created the enabling environment for Edo athletes to excel on the national stage.
