Chilling Account: Kidnappers Narrate Step‑By‑Step How They Seized Bayelsa Judge at Eatery
Suspected kidnappers of Bayelsa High Court Judge, Justice Ebiyerin Omukoro, have given a detailed account of how they seized him from an eatery in Yenagoa and moved him to a neighbouring state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to reports, eight suspects—six men and two women—were paraded on Thursday in Yenagoa by the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Francis Idu, alongside the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adedapo Amao. The suspects, now in DSS custody, reportedly confessed to the crime during the parade.
One of the principal suspects, Justice Brodrick, from Ozobo community in Delta State, admitted he joined the operation after being invited by his “boss.”
“On June 21, he called me to come to Yenagoa. He also called John Uzi, who is here with me, and I contacted my younger brother, Kelvin Olu, to join us,” Brodrick said.
He explained that upon arriving in Bayelsa, they were given uniforms and a vehicle for the operation.
“We left our camp without a fixed target. We were patrolling when we saw the judge at Kilimanjaro (an eatery). That’s where we approached him and took him to our camp,” Brodrick recounted.
Brodrick added that they initially didn’t know their victim was a judge. However, once they discovered he was from Ekeremor Local Government Area, they decided to treat him with some respect.
“When he told us he’s Ijaw, our leader—whom we call ‘General’—insisted he remain in handcuffs but should be treated well as one of our own,” he said.
Another suspect, John, claimed he did not take part in the abduction itself due to ill health, though he was at the camp when the judge arrived.
Governor Douye Diri had earlier confirmed during a State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday that all those involved in the abduction had been arrested, except for the gang leader, who is still on the run.
Commissioner Idu credited the successful operation to strong inter-agency collaboration, praising the DSS for deploying a special operations team from Abuja. He also commended Governor Diri for providing critical logistics and highlighted how CCTV installations across the state were instrumental in tracking the suspects.
“This arrest is proof of the security governance strategy of His Excellency, Governor Douye Diri,” Idu said.
“He has continually emphasised collaboration among security agencies, and this case shows that Bayelsa is no longer a safe haven for criminals.”
The police chief also issued a stern warning to anyone plotting criminal activities in the state.

Fuel Price Drops As NNPC Reduces Pump Price Nationwide.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has reduced petrol prices at its retail stations to ₦1,130 per litre in Lagos and ₦1,165 per litre in Abuja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The new rates, effective Wednesday, mark a ₦100 drop from ₦1,230 per litre in Lagos and a ₦95 decrease from ₦1,260 per litre in Abuja.
Observations show that several NNPCL outlets in Lagos, including stations along Isheri Oshun Road, Apple Junction, and Ago Palace Way, have already implemented the revised prices. In Abuja, motorists saw the new ₦1,165 per litre rate at stations in Jabi and Wuse.
The adjustment provides modest relief to consumers who have faced repeated fuel price hikes in recent months.
The reduction comes even as many oil marketers have yet to reflect the earlier ₦100 per litre cut in petrol’s gantry price by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, which lowered its price to ₦1,075 following a dip in global crude oil prices.
The previous spike in crude prices was driven by geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Iran, and Israel, which raised concerns over potential disruptions to global oil supply, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, a key transit route for oil shipments.
Prices began to ease after former U.S. President Donald Trump suggested the conflict could be resolved soon, alleviating fears of prolonged supply shortages. Brent crude, the global benchmark, fell by about 8.45%, dropping from roughly $110 per barrel to around $92 per barrel. The decline also followed European ministers’ discussions on releasing strategic oil reserves to stabilise energy markets.
