Say Sorry to Obi Now!’ – Nollywood Star‑Turned Politician Issues Stern Ultimatum to Okpebholo
Veteran actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has demanded a public apology from Governor Monday Okpebholo over comments suggesting that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, must seek security clearance before entering Edo State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
An obviously angered Okonkwo warned that if the Governor failed to retract the statement and apologise, he would continually hold him accountable.
Okonkwo made the remarks on Monday morning during an interview on Arise Television. When the anchor appealed to him to remain calm and maintain decorum, Okonkwo shot back, insisting that he could not stay calm in the face of such a declaration, which he said endangered the life and liberty of a Nigerian citizen.
“If that Governor (Okpebholo) doesn’t apologize, I will be on his case,” Okonkwo vowed.
Recall that Governor Okpebholo had earlier cautioned Peter Obi against visiting Edo State without security clearance, issuing the warning while receiving Hon. Marcus Onobun, the state’s last remaining opposition federal lawmaker, into the ruling party.
During the reception, Okpebholo linked Obi’s recent visit to Benin City with what he described as a resurgence of political violence, a statement that has drawn widespread backlash from stakeholders and civil society groups.
In response to the criticisms, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, clarified in a statement to Naija News on Sunday evening that Edo State remains open to all Nigerians. He explained that the Governor’s position was merely a call for adherence to standard security protocols, not an attempt to bar Obi or any other Nigerian from visiting the state.
