Fraud Alert: NDDC Urges Nigerians to Disregard Dubious Skill‑Acquisition Offers

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has issued a public warning over a fraudulent skills acquisition programme falsely linked to the commission.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement released on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, the NDDC urged the public to ignore claims by a group accusing the commission of failing to pay trainees for a so‑called training exercise.

According to the NDDC, it never authorized, sponsored, or engaged any individual or organisation to conduct such a programme, and members of the public—especially young people—should be cautious to avoid falling victim to fraudsters.

The statement, signed by the NDDC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson‑Wakama, stressed that all genuine NDDC skills acquisition initiatives are well publicized and open to scrutiny.

“The attention of the Niger Delta Development Commission has been drawn to reports circulating in the media claiming the NDDC failed to fulfil its promise to pay trainees for a purported skills acquisition programme,” the commission said.

The alleged training, reportedly organized by a religious group identified as Victorious Prayer Network in Bayelsa and Rivers states, claimed that the NDDC had pledged to sponsor over 2,000 trainees and provide starter packs—claims the commission categorically denied.

“We wish to clarify that the NDDC approved no such training programme. Any activity conducted under such suspicious circumstances did not have our authorization or endorsement,” the statement noted.

The commission emphasized that those behind the allegations were never engaged to implement any NDDC skills initiative.

“We wish to state unequivocally that the NDDC is not behind this particular skill acquisition training. Our genuine programmes are always well advertised and open to public verification,” the statement continued.

“We recently launched a comprehensive technical skills acquisition programme in Port Harcourt to equip participants with practical, in-demand skills. Members of the public, particularly youths, should exercise caution when approached by individuals claiming to represent the NDDC.”

The commission described the situation as disturbing, lamenting that some individuals were exploiting the genuine aspirations of young people eager for legitimate opportunities.

The NDDC reiterated its commitment to transparency and fairness in all empowerment and skills acquisition projects.

“In light of this unfortunate development, we urge our youths to beware of desperate individuals seeking undeserved financial gains. All inquiries about our programmes should be directed through our official communication channels. We also encourage beneficiaries to verify any information via our official website and social media platforms,” the statement added.
