Breaking: Ex‑Depot Rate Falls, Marketers Slash Pump Price in Fresh Dangote-Driven Shift

Published

on

Petroleum marketers under the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) have announced a reduction in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, effective Tuesday, July 15....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This adjustment follows Dangote Refinery’s decision to lower its ex‑depot price from ₦840 to ₦820 per litre, a move that prompted IPMAN members to review their retail prices.

Speaking with journalists after an emergency meeting in Abuja, IPMAN National President, Abubakar Maigandi, confirmed the new pricing structure.

“We met on Tuesday and agreed to reduce the price of petrol to between ₦900 and ₦920 per litre for our members in Abuja and the North Central region,” Maigandi said, as quoted by Daily Post.

He further explained that marketers in other parts of the country will now sell petrol at prices ranging from ₦860 to ₦890 per litre, depending on transportation costs and local conditions.

“Nigerians are happy because we’ve seen a consistent reduction in fuel prices in recent weeks,” Maigandi added.

The price cut comes barely a week after Dangote Refinery—with a daily refining capacity of 650,000 barrels—announced its second downward price review for July, a move that has been credited with helping to stabilise domestic fuel costs.

This development coincides with a public holiday declared by the Federal Government in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London on Sunday, July 14, 2025. His burial is scheduled to hold on Tuesday in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State.

The reduction also mirrors the global dip in crude oil prices, with Brent crude trading at $69.10 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) at $66.98 as of Monday—both below earlier figures above $70.

Industry analysts note that the price cut, combined with the refinery’s aggressive pricing strategy, highlights the positive effects of ongoing downstream sector liberalisation and a market-driven approach aimed at easing the burden on Nigerian consumers.

He warned against dragging the state into fresh tension, accusing the state government of attempting to revive old allegations for political advantage.

Adewara said the PDP would not remain silent while what he called “political narratives” are used to influence public perception around a tragic incident that claimed multiple lives in Offa in 2018.

He also urged residents, especially affected families, not to allow their pain to be used for political gains, insisting it is unjust to associate Saraki with the crime.

The party further alleged that the move is aimed at distracting attention from governance challenges in the state.
