According to NIVONEWS, Justice Aishetu Mohammed of High Court No. 4 delivered the judgment on Wednesday, convicting Afekafe on two counts: armed robbery and culpable homicide—offences that carry severe penalties under Sections 221 and 298 of the Penal Code.

Dr. Adefolalu was gruesomely murdered on October 28, 2023—just 26 days after Afekafe began working in her home in the Gbaiko area of Minna. According to NIVONEWS, the court found that the teenager had conspired with two male accomplices, known as DJ Wallex and DJ Smart—both currently at large—to carry out the attack after she was dismissed from her job for alleged theft.

Delivering judgment, Justice Mohammed declared that the prosecution had established its case beyond reasonable doubt. “The death of Dr. Mrs. Funmilayo Sherifat Adefolalu was caused by the convict and her fleeing accomplices when they repeatedly stabbed her with knives and delivered the fatal blow using a wooden stool,” the judge stated.

Investigations revealed that Afekafe, who was introduced to the household by a local pastor, confessed to plotting the revenge attack. She admitted to helping her accomplices gain access to the house, where they stabbed the lecturer and stole valuables including two phones, a laptop, and foreign currencies.

According to NIVONEWS, the trial judge spent nearly two hours delivering the verdict, ultimately sentencing the teenage convict to life in prison—a ruling that brings closure to one of Niger State’s most disturbing murder cases in recent memory.
