Tears, Prayers, and Tax Reforms – Oyedele Reveals Wife’s Midnight Vigils Amid Controversy

Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, has opened up about the personal cost of the ongoing tax reform controversy, revealing the emotional strain it has placed on his family.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, Oyedele admitted that the most difficult sacrifice he has made in the course of his public service has been the toll on his loved ones.

“The biggest sacrifice, without a doubt, has been the emotional impact — especially on my family,” he said. “At the height of the controversy, there were all kinds of false stories being published on blogs and in the media. It was really tough.”

He recounted how his wife resorted to nightly prayer vigils during the ordeal.
“She was up every night praying, barely able to stay awake the next day. Thankfully, my children are still young and unaware of what I was going through. But it’s been a heavy burden.”

Oyedele, who was appointed by President Bola Tinubu in July 2023 to lead the committee, urged Nigerians to support individuals who are genuinely trying to make a difference in public service.

“If we truly want a better Nigeria, we must not discourage those who step forward to help. Working in the public sector is already a difficult decision; making it even harder only worsens the situation.”

Despite the challenges, he said the sacrifice has been worth it.
“I believe the new tax laws will reshape Nigeria’s fiscal landscape for the better,” Oyedele said.

He disclosed that he declined a full salary offer for the role, asking only for costs to be covered.
“The financial aspect is now the least of it. The government wanted to pay a significant amount, but I said, ‘Just take care of the expenses involved in what you’ve asked me to do.’ That’s enough for me. It’s a small sacrifice compared to the potential impact.”

He explained that the reforms, which take effect in January 2026, are not aimed at increasing taxes but at boosting economic activity, tackling tax evasion, and protecting vulnerable populations.

“These policies are designed to promote efficiency, support business growth, and ensure that the poor are not unfairly taxed. It’s a people-centred approach.”

Tension In Abuja As JAMB Officials Storm Out Of House Of Reps Meeting

A dramatic scene unfolded at the National Assembly on Wednesday when officials of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) walked out during an investigative session with the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Nivo News, the lawmakers had summoned the JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, to present certain documents before the committee. However, Oloyede was absent and sent a representative, Director Mufutau Bello, who appeared alongside other top officials of the Board.

Tension arose when Bello reportedly insisted that journalists should not be present during his presentation, arguing that the documents contained sensitive information. The committee members, however, rejected his request, insisting that the session was a public hearing and that the Board had no authority to determine how parliamentary proceedings should be conducted.

The disagreement quickly escalated, leading Bello to order his team to walk out of the session, an action that left the lawmakers visibly shocked.

In reaction, the committee directed the Sergeant-at-Arms to arrest the JAMB officials, but they had already exited the National Assembly complex before the order could be executed.

Following the incident, the committee issued an ultimatum, mandating JAMB Registrar Professor Oloyede to appear in person before next Tuesday to present the required documents. Lawmakers warned that failure to comply could result in the issuance of a warrant of arrest.

According to Nivo News, popular Nigerian rapper Oladips has alleged that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) collected ₦10 million from him before granting his release following his arrest in 2024.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The artist made this revelation during an interview on the Trending podcast, where he recounted his experience during the five days he spent in EFCC custody after being arrested in a midnight raid at his estate last November.

Oladips explained that he was detained alongside several neighbours on suspicion of internet fraud but maintained that nothing incriminating was discovered against him. He expressed frustration over the alleged extortion, describing his ordeal as a reflection of the country’s flawed system.

“It’s just one smelling place. They packed us there like sardines and gave us nonsense food. Funny enough, it was Zlatan that was sending me food. He’s more like family,” Oladips shared. “I wasn’t even supposed to be there. They didn’t find anything on me, not even a single thing, and they still collected ₦10 million before they released me.”

When asked if he would take legal action against the agency, Oladips responded rhetorically, “Who is my father? It’s just me and my truth. I don’t even know how the system works. They know I’m saying the truth. They collected money from me without finding anything on me. What was the money for? What was all that stress for? Nigeria just happened to me.”
