According to Arewa PUNCH, the facility boasts state-of-the-art medical equipment valued at over ₦2 billion and includes a new Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system, marking a major milestone in the state’s healthcare modernization efforts.

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Professor Christopher Yilgwan, made this known during the official commissioning ceremony held on Thursday as part of activities to commemorate Democracy Day in the state.

“Governor Caleb Mutfwang is not only building on the legacy of his predecessors; he is laying a new foundation for the future of healthcare in Plateau,” Yilgwan said. “In just two years, he has achieved what many thought impossible. Today, we are not merely commissioning a building, but a fully-equipped laboratory complex housing medical tools worth over ₦2 billion. These are the kind of technologies typically found in top-tier global hospitals.”

Yilgwan noted that the facility, which includes the diagnostic lab, pediatric unit, and other modern features, is designed to deliver accurate and timely medical diagnostics and care. He emphasized that the upgrades will significantly reduce the need for patients to seek medical services outside the state.

He also praised the governor for reviving long-abandoned projects and turning the hospital into what he described as a “world-class medical institution.” The implementation of the EMR system, he added, positions the hospital in line with international standards in healthcare administration.

“These developments have not only enhanced our diagnostic capacity but have positioned us to serve as a healthcare hub for not just Plateau State, but also the wider West African sub-region,” Yilgwan stated.

Expressing optimism about future expansion, he said, “Our ambition is for this hospital to become a benchmark not just in Nigeria, but across Africa.”

In his remarks during the commissioning, Governor Mutfwang reiterated that the project reflects his administration’s broader vision to elevate Plateau’s healthcare system to meet both national and global standards.

“It is a great honour to formally inaugurate this medical laboratory complex—both the infrastructure and the equipment—which will significantly enhance healthcare delivery in Plateau and beyond,” the governor said.
