Ahmed, along with 14-year-old Deputy Speaker Christopher Ngale and ten other principal officers, took the oath of office on Monday during a ceremony at the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development’s Conference Hall.
The event was attended by government officials, legislative aides, and child rights advocates who applauded the revival of the children’s legislative body.
Speaking at the inauguration, Principal Legislative Officer at the Gombe State House of Assembly, Aminu Aliyu, urged the young parliamentarians to champion the protection of children’s rights.
“You are representatives of children across the state. Carry yourselves with the dignity and responsibility your roles demand,” Aliyu said.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Modi Shelpidi, described the occasion as a major step forward in promoting child welfare in Gombe, noting that the state had not had an active Children’s Parliament since 2022.
Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs, Gabriel Galadima, assured the young leaders of the state legislature’s full backing.
“We are ready to mentor them in the legislative process. Our doors are open for guidance and support,” he stated.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Asma’u Iganus, hailed Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his continued support of child-focused initiatives.
“The Governor’s endorsement of the Child Protection and Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) laws reflects his commitment to creating a safer, more inclusive environment for children,” Iganus said.
She encouraged the children to use their new platform to amplify the voices and concerns of young people across and beyond the state.
In celebration of the upcoming Children’s Day on May 27, the commissioner also led ministry officials on visits to several orphanages—including Al-Guh, Da’awah, Gombe House of Hope, and Destiny Kids—where they donated relief materials.

Wike Orders Arrest Over Illegal Buildings On FCT Land.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ordered the arrest of Kabiru Sahara for illegally occupying a plot of land and constructing buildings without federal government approval.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking to reporters during an inspection tour of projects in Abuja, Wike revealed that the land in question, located in the Diplomatic Zone, Katampe Extension, was originally allocated on March 18, 2008, to 10 embassies for diplomatic residential use. A portion was also reserved for the Power Holding Company of Nigeria for a 132/133KV power station.
The minister explained that the plots were assigned to diplomatic missions including those of Thailand, Bulgaria, Syria, Somalia, Serbia and Montenegro, Japan, Austria, Switzerland, Senegal, and the Palestine Liberation Organisation. The FCT Administration has begun notifying these missions to take possession of their allocated lands.
Wike added that the Department of Development Control has been instructed to remove all illegal structures.
“This land was allocated to various embassies. Somebody just came here, took the land, and started developing it without approval from the FCDA. We cannot allow this kind of land invasion to continue,” he said.
He confirmed that the suspected developer has been arrested and will face prosecution following ongoing police investigations.
“The man has been arrested and will be charged in court. The police are currently investigating, and he will be arraigned soon,” Wike stated.
The minister made the remarks after inspecting several ongoing infrastructure projects across Abuja, including the redesigned Abuja City Gate, the road from Bill Clinton Drive near Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to the Tunga Madaki community (now extended to Zuba), the road connecting Baze University, the Body of Benchers, Nile University, and the Wupa Light Rail Station in Idu, as well as the Office Annex for the Body of Benchers.
He noted that many of these projects, handled by firms including Julius Berger Nigeria, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, and Levant Construction, are expected to be completed in time for the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
